Cerro Negro Volcano
The Cerro Negro Volcano is one of the best-known adventure attractions in Nicaragua. Located only 16 miles from the city of León, it is the youngest volcano in Central America (167 years) and one of the most active in the country, with an altitude of approximately 2,400 feet above sea
level.
Cerro Negro has a conical shape formed by ash and black sand, which give it its name. Its eruptions are generally expulsions of pyroclastic fragments, ashes and lava, its last eruption was in 1999. Due to the constant activity not much vegetation grows, giving the volcano its majestic black skirt.
